mayor killerCops release artist's sketches of ex-mayor's shooter Police came out Tuesday with artist's sketches of the suspect in the killing of former Misamis Occidental mayor Rey Yap. The former Sapang Dalaga town mayor was killed inside a courtroom in Manila's city hall.The artist's sketches released by the Manila Police District and the city hall police detachment described the suspect as man with short hair, stands around 5'6", between 25-30 years old, weighing about 140-150 lbs. and fair complexioned Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim said police are now hunting down the lone gunman. Lim said investigators were eyeing political rivalry as the motive in the slaying of Yap.Meanwhile, the Manila mayor ordered the installation of metal detectors in the entrances of the city hall.Earlier, Lim said it was business as usual at the city hall hours after the lone gunman shot dead Yap. The attack wounded several others.Lim told reporters that the city hall has been cleared of the threat.The mayor said the lone gunman shot dead Yap during a hearing at the Manila Regional Trial Court on the city hall's fourth floor.The gunman also shot Yap's bodyguard, Peter Villanueva, and court employee Bella Santos Nocum. Villanueva remains in critical condition at the Manila Doctor's Hospital while Nocum was brought to the Philippine General Hospital. Witnesses described the assailant as tall, clean-cut and wearing a police uniform. After the shooting, the gunman reportedly ran down the stairs and left the building. Lim said he will impose stricter security measures inside the city hall after the shooting. He said only two doors will be allocated to non-employees at the city hall. Additional security men will also be deployed inside the compound. Earlier reports said Yap was attending a court hearing for a pending murder case before the Manila RTC. Yap was found guilty of killing former mayor Victorio "Boy" Cebedo of Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte, before the 1992 local elections. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Yap was reportedly a known political rival of the Cebedo family.In 2007, the Court of Appeals reversed the ruling and ordered Yap's release, citing conflicting accounts of the shooting. Yap has other pending cases.
