With a REAL musician, there's always the chance that they're going to screw up, and that's what makes music amazing is when they don't. When you eliminate that possibility, then the piece loses something.

I feel sorry for people who just don't understand the concept of 'soul' - they're half alive at best.

zero soul.
dropfan195 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
no soul

@NickpleeIt is synchrone with my lp of Giant steps. Maybe I don't understand it because I am an atheist. I don't believe in souls. :P If you copy every condition, you get the same sound.
nickplee (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
uhm, no? It sounds nothing like a human, it sounds like a jumbled collection of notes. That is what people mean by "soul."
EendjeKwak (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I think the tone durations and air pressure are copied from mr Coltrane himself, so what do you mean with 'soul'? Is it just the unpleasant thought that a machine is playing instead of a human being?
ShikiGamiKun (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Well, this thing "soul" is part of your subjective definition of music, but actually the definition that you gave about what this robot does is what a person does to play the instrument. The only thing that this robot lacks of is the individual velocity of each note, but even that could be robotized.
