City Reviews Security Following Kirkwood Council Shooting
The fatal shootings at a Kirkwood City Council meeting Thursday night have prompted a review of security measures in Kansas City.City Hall put in metal detectors after the Sept. 11 attacks. David Severenuk, the security manager for Kansas City government, said anytime there's a violent incident in a public building anywhere in the United States, there is a shakeup of procedures."Every time there is an incident of importance, we ask our security company to be able to retrain our officers, and remind them of those things so that they don't become comfortable with their daily routines," Severenuk told KMBC's Martin Augustine.Lee's Summit Mayor Karen Messerli, who is a friend of the injured Kirkwood mayor, said it is impossible to have 100 percent security in a public building.
