I wouldn't be too certain; the Smart has so little grip and/or such overzealous traction control that it set a record in Car and Driver magazine as the slowest through the slalom - the previous record-holder was a Rolls-Royce. With the engine out back, braking escpecially would be gentle to avoid Porsche 911-esque spins.

actually they crashed a smart car at 70 into a concrete wall on Top Gear - it did quite well. All they have to do now is give it lots more power, and redesign it so it doesn't look like a pushchair and normal people will want one.

Smart is a city car. In most cities you don't drive fast because of traffic jams. And if you drive slowly you will survive no mather what you hit. And if you are speeding 200 km/h - no car is safe enough.

I bet those cars stop a whole lot faster, making it more likely that you can avoid slamming into something too. |
