Personal Records Found Abandoned In Home
Documents containing Social Security numbers, addresses, as well as bankruptcy forms and more were left behind in a Northland home by a woman who was hired to shred them, KMBC's Kris Ketz reported.
More than 1,000 documents were found strewn throughout the first floor of a Weatherby Lake home.
"Anyone could break into this house. It's empty. They could break in and discover this is a treasure trove of information on people," said Karan, whose medical files were found in the house. She did not want her last name used. Jen Bustamonte stumbled upon the records while serving eviction papers to a woman by the name of Robin Lee Malone.
"I came to give her an eviction notice and payment of rent and that is it," Bustamonte said.
"I was extremely disconcerted, not only that these have been found, but whoever was responsible for these records had entrusted someone in their home to take care of this with no sort of oversight," Karan said.
Malone, who lived in the house, was hired by doctors' offices and accounting firms to shred the documents. She brought them to the Weatherby Lake home, moved out and left the documents behind.
Ketz said he tried to contact Malone twice at her new home. She would not go on camera. But she did tell Ketz by phone that she sold the house, and the locks were changed before she could remove the documents.
