Wilton, c. 1763, Middlesex County, VA
SAVED FROM DEMOLITION BY APVA PRESERVATON VIRGINIA... AND FOR SALE...Built in 1763, Wilton Plantation in Middlesex, Virginia is a rare and outstanding example of a middling plantation owner's home. The house has few modifications and features old English boxwood gardens. Wilton is a T-shaped, gambrel roof house of brick laid in Flemish Bond over an English Bond foundation. The floor plan is relatively unchanged since the 18th century. A beautifully detailed early Virginia staircase provides an impressive entry. The formal parlor is fully paneled on all four walls. Vestiges of marbelizing can be found on the fireplace surround. Most of the woodwork is in original paint. Interior features include ten-foot ceilings, eight fireplaces, and kitchen with arched fireplace opening. There are also two outbuildings. On National Register of Historic Places. Under easement with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.
