I tried it, and it worked! I used an old speaker my parents had at 80 hz. I think the amount of hertz req'd has to do with the thickness (by length, not be amount of cornstarch) of the suspension---the thicker, the lower. It must only be a few mm thick to work. Oh, and if you're using speakers, you'll need to crank it WAY up and hold the pan down firmly while you have the sound on...you'll also need a tone generator, I'm sure you can find plenty online for free.
