KALNA: 11 BODIES STOLEN FROM BURIAL GROUND

Around eleven skeletons from a Muslim graveyard were stolen by unidentified miscreants at Comapnybagan area under Krishnadevpur gram panchayet under Kalna-I block. The incidence were first noticed by some villagers today morning. The mishap created sensation among the local inhabitants. The graveyard, just beside the Bhagirathi river is used by over 5000 villagers of 9 villages. The villagers reported it to the panchayet members & the pradhan was called in. The members of the panchayet & senior police officials rushed to the area. They found that eleven bodies were dug out from the burial ground. Stains of blood & pieces of clothes were also scattered all over. No one has been arrested in connection with this incidence.

However the district police super informed that, nine bodies are missing & said that a probe has been initiated in this matter. Notably a total of 14 bodies were similarly dug out from burial grounds in Bhatar, Aushgram & Galsi during the last three months. Villagers of Galsi even demonstrated at the local police station in connection with this matter. The village panchayet pradhan, Sk. Abdar Rahaman said to bardhaman.com, "2 such bodies were removed similarly from adjacent Bridhyapara burial ground about a month back. We are trying to locate the miscreants from our end along with the police. We suspect this to be done by experienced personnel as all the graves were dug from the bottom end to prevent the skulls being cracked while digging."
