Mohunbagan-sail Football academy : new hope for footballers

The Mohunbagan football club seniors couldn't hide their joy & emotions seeing the juniors beating Avenue Samyelanee. Aviraj, Suman, Shankar & Sajal found their dream come true when their idols blessed them at the end of the match. These boys are the outcome of Mohunbagan - SAIL football academy. The academy was started about a year back under the guidance of legendary footballer like Shyam Thapa & Bhupiunder Singh at Durgapur. Ex-India coach, Jahar Das have joined the academy to nourish the young talents. Although most of the boys have left 

during the one year, the under 14 & under 17 team is been carefully nourished by the organisors. The young soccer players have made the authorities feel proud. The teams have reached till the quarter final level at the Sikkim Governor's Gold cup where they produced a good show before loosing to `heavy-weight' like Air India. The under 16 team have emerged champions at the Kartick Orao Football Tournament held at Ranchi, Jharkhand. 
 

The results of the young players have inspired the senior club authorities & ex-players of the club so much that they happen to visit the academy when ever they can squeeze out time out of their schedule. The academy run jointly by Mohunbagan club & Steel Authority of India Limited is run professionally. Coach Bhupinder Singh claims this to be the second best just after the TATA Football Academy. The players also are satisfactory over the facilities like swimming pool, modern gymnasium & sand tracks. The academy officials have even setup the professionalism through leasing & `selling' footballer of the academy to various clubs. 

Every player's career graph & growth chart is closely monitored regularly. The only thing the academy seeks more is participation in more & more competitive tournaments. Thapa even want to take the players on foreign trips for exposure to the international circuit. He also feel this will boost up the confidence of the players. 
 

Six players of this academy have managed to qualify to represent the country's under 14 team. The academy is & will play a vital role in regaining the lost glory of the game. The future will tell that whether we still will have to rely on the foreign players to retain glory of the national club level football championship or these young nourished players will able to do it son on their own self.
