Durgapur, 26 Aug, 04:
The production and over all situation become normal today after an union-management negotiation. The tension mounted after some CITU activists stormed in to 'Phillips Carbon Black's producing unit in Durgapur yesterday. The CITU activists ransacked the office of the company’s personnel manager and broke down the office furniture, windowpanes and the telephones. In presence of the policemen the angry CITU activists turned the entire premises of the company in to a mess that had an adverse effect to the production.

Despite of the Chief Minister’s repeated call to give up militancy the CITU went on berserk yesterday after the authorities of the Goenka owned 'Phillips Carbon Black' refused to dismiss two wage earners engaged by a contractor day before yesterday. Rabin Ghosh, the contractor supplying labour to the PCBL had absorbed two persons incidentally they were from the Trinamul Congress. The CITU immediately asked the said contractor to reciprocate by engaging another two from theirs union. Since there was no requirement, the concerned contractor did not respond the CITU's call and that led the mayhem yesterday. And in presence of police the CITU workers continued rampaging for three hours.

Yesterday tension spreads in the factory after the Trinamul Congress backed workers came in to the rescue of the managerial staffs who were fleeing considering gravity of the situation. A number of workers were injured during the prolonged scuffle. The personnel manager of the PCBL, Swapan Chatterjee told Bardhaman Dot Com that, ‘the intruders belonged to both the parties and the reason what provoked the flushing up of the workers did not have any link with the company. It was purely a matter dealt by the contractor concerned.’ Today the district CPIM secretariat pleaded it’s labour front to restrain from creating nuisance in that factory. The CPI-M zonal secretary and president of the CITU union in PCBL, Sukhen Sarkar told, ‘the entire matter was provoked by the Trinamul Congressmen. We pleaded that the contractor should engage with equal stake for the parties concerned. But today we managed to negotiate with factory management. We are very responsible union and we are not in position to hamper the good industrial environment.’ Though Biswanath Parial, the Trinamul ward councilor who was leading the party alleged, ‘their Chief Minister has been insisting that the left trade unions should give up militancy but those remain mere words. Its revealed from their gesture that occurred even today.’

However nobody have been arrested for yesterday's ransacked yet. Today the production of PCBL is in full swing after CITU leader ensured authority to maintain peace in the factory. And followed by this negotiation, today's tripartite meeting called by SDO Durgapur have been postponed.
