Ghosh, Durgapur, 9 Jan 04 : Durgapur Projects Ltd. (DPL) can
disconnect electrical supply of MAMC any day due to overdue of Rs.
30 crores as energy supply charges. Shri Pradip Samanta,
spokesperson, DPL said, "We will take steps after giving
advance notice to MAMC. Also ADDA (Asansol Durgapur Development
Authority) has a part to play as long as MAMC is concerned. We are
discussing the matter at all levels. We had disconnected the
supply of Bharat Ophthalmic Glass Ltd (BOGL) due to a due of 9
crores, although we reconnected the supply the next day as a part
of the due were paid by the BOGL management. We don't want anyone
to be harassed."
The residents of BOGL staff quarters have a different experience.
"Our houses plunged into darkness & we were not informed
about such consequences. Even if our water distribution system
stopped and didn't have water to drink also." said a
resident. BOGL was sent to BIFR declaring it a sick industry.
Later the company was referred to AFIR with hope to overcome its
situation. 180 employees didn't receive their salary for the last
3 months.
The state electricity minister & the local representative Shri
Mrinal Banerjee said to bardhaman.com, "Everybody expects me
to interfere on humanitarian ground. But people have to think
about us. How can we operate if crores of Rupees are left overdue
year after year. Things are turning out to beg from beggars.
Let them try to solve by themselves although I will keep a close
vigil on the matter." |
