DURGAPUR: SRIJANI, INTERNATIONAL STANDARD AUDITORIUM INAUGURATED

Srijani, a cultural center promoted by the Durgapur Municipal Corporation was inaugurated by actor, Soumitra Chatterjee at City center, Durgapur this evening. Film director, Tarun Majumder, noted author, Sunil Gangopadhyay and noted light technician, Tapas Sen were also present at the occasion. The center comprise of an auditorium with 1370 seat arrangement, an art gallery and also another small theatre hall with about 200 seats. The auditorium & the gallery are named on poet Jibananda Das and

Ramkinkar Bej respectively. Rathin Roy, the mayor of Durgapur Municipal Corporation informed, "the centre is aimed to draw the attention of the litterateurs, poets, artists and persons with innovative ideas." He added, "as Srijani is meant to help developing cultural activities, we insisted to invite the maestros in the respective fields to inaugurate the center." The Asansol-Durgapur Development Authority contributed Rs 1 crore out of the total Rs. 6 crore cost to help construction of the center.
