A 52 year-old woman was brutally raped and wounded severely by the colleague of her son early midnight. The irate mass went on berserk and razed the residence of the accused youth to earth and handed him over to the police. The police said that the accused has committed the crime to meet his grudge against the son of the woman. Sagar Bala, son of the woman and a resident of Gopalpur village under Kanksa P.S., Burdwan allegedly had illicit affair with the wife of the accused, Ganesh Halder. Both Ganesh and Sagar are wage earners and are also neighbours. 

The matter sparked sensation in the Gopalpur village at about 2am today when the woman was found lying in a slum beside the local primary school and blood oozing out from her wounds. She was found unconscious. Her neighbours rescued her and transported to the Durgapur Sub-Divisional hospital. The hospital superintendent, Dr Nandi said, "her condition is critical and gradually deteriorating. Her injury is serious in nature and was caused due to repeated hammering with blunt weapon at her genital organ after she was raped." The hospital authority stated concern and decided to shift her to the Burdwan Medical College & Hospital if she does not recover by this night. 

As stated Ajitesh Ghorami, assistant panchayet pradhan of  Gopalpur gram panchayet, "she was about to die when the locals managed to shift her to the hospital. She could only utter the name of the accused before she became unconscious." The locals raided the house of the accused this morning after the group returned from the hospital. The taxi driver who helped the injured woman shifted to the hospital said, "she had continuous bleeding and was uttering the name of Ganesh only." Ghorami informed, "Sagar had illicit affair with Ganesh’s wife and for that reason Ganesh had cautioned him several times. Yesterday afternoon when Sagar made a second attempt to get in to his house was caught by Ganesh and was beat up. Ganesh also threatened him in to dire consequences." The scared Sagar fearing further attack by Ganesh had concealed himself inside their wretched hut. 

Ganesh, according to Sagar, "appeared in our hut with a shovel in hand and asked my where-about to my old mother" To misguide the angry and drunk youth the woman directed her towards the adjacent jungle. The youth dragged her beside a tree and raped her consecutively. She told the hospital authority that Ganesh then entered the shovel in to her genital parts brutally. The duty officer of the Kanksa police station, Sunil Sil said, "when the woman failed to place her son before her the accused burst out and went brutal. We did not see him repenting for the act." Sagar said, "I had no idea that he was dragging my mother with such an ulterior motive. Otherwise I would have faced the consequence." Wife of Ganesh, Basona and his mother, Bimala escaped the local’s wrath and fled the village.
