Yesterday night a dead body was found at ferryghat near Sankhari, Katwa. Police and local people identified the body to be that of Nikhil Das, a postmaster of Sankhari post office under Katwa head post. Nikhil was absconding for last few days after a case of fraud was lodged against him. The villagers of Sankhari lodged a complaint against Nikhil for frauding over 10 lakhs rupees from the post office. Karu Bala Bairaga and Swapan Dey along with the villagers lodged a written complaint against Nikhil infront of Katwa postmaster Dhanapati Saha. On the basis of the complain Asst. Superintendent of Katwa post office, Jagannath Biswas was sent to investigate the matter. After the departmental investigation, Jagannath submitted the report where he found Nikhil guilty for frauding an amount of rupees 80,000 which he received as money orders, saving account deposits, NSC, Indira Bikash Patra and other instruments. A FIR had been lodged by the department at Ketugram Police Station by the department. 

Soon after Nikhil fled away out of the reach of the police, and was absconding till his dead body was found yesterday. The police informed this to be a case of suicide but the local MLA, Rabindra Nath Chatterjee claimed this to be a murder case. He suspects that, Nikhil has been killed and hanged as there may be other persons involved in the post office scam who terminated Nikhil to hide themselves. The body was recovered at a ferryghat miles away from the residence of Nikhil. The SP Burdwan, N. K Singh told that, the police is investigating the matter & soon will revel the fact.
