Burdwan, 23 Aug 04 :
The district Sarbasikha Abhijan committiee have returned the panel of selected para-teachers to over 30 schools. The committee have informed the schools that the panel was made without maintaining the stipulated norms. Over 17000 people appeared for written test for the post of 3191 para-teachers under the `education for everyone' scheme on 14th August. Over 10000 of them were called in for verbal & mock classroom tests on 16th August. The panel of successful candidates was then sent before the committee for necessary permission.

The committee while scrutinizing the panel, found it to be made without following the guidelines laid by the government. The department sources reveled that, at least 50% of the appointments should be allotted to female candidates where as most of the schools have recommended 100% male candidates. The guidelines also stated that, in case of 3 employments in a school, 2 should be of female candidates, which is also deviated from by most of the schools. It has also been noted in some cases that candidates with extra ordinary

academic results throughout, have been allotted lesser marks at the verbal test to eliminate them out of the competition. An official of the department said that, the schools have been informed to reconcile the list according to the merits & the norms laid out by the department before making fresh panel. District Inspector of Schools SK. Saidul Haque informed, "the matter is known to me & we will enquiry about it."
