Burdwan, 22 Sep 04 :
The bus services continues to be disrupted for a
third consecutive day by daily passengers following
abolishment of concessional fare. The altercation
between the bus owners & the passengers started
today morning at Tinkonia bus stand. The passengers set
rampage & broke glass panes once the buses reached
on the outskirts of the city. The district bus owners
association stopped bus services immediately.
The president of the Burdwan Motors & Transport
union, Kalishankar Pal informed, "the quarrel
started when some of the passengers declined to pay the
full fare & even beat the conductor once he demanded
fare stating the abolishment decision with reference to
the administrative decision". The bus services were
stopped till the afternoon after which it normalised.
Later buses started plying with the help of police force
on certain routes. As per information received at the
late evening, the bus operators of Burdwan - Arambag
route have started identifying the protesting passengers
& handed over some of them to the police. This have
sent sensation among the passengers & doubts of
bigger confrontation persists tomorrow.
