The candidature of the BJP candidate of the Burdwan Loksava constituency, Anindya Gopal Mitra has become uncertain as his name has appeared at a list issued by the Election Commission of India stating the name of the defaulter candidates. According to the list he has been debarred from contesting any election till April 2005. His has supposedly not submitted the statement of expenses of the last election he contested from Baranagar assembly constituency. The information was notified to him by the District Magistrate of Burdwan today.

The DM Burdwan, Subrata Gupta confirmed the matter & said, "the notification was served by the ECI under its clause 10 which may result in disqualification of a candidature, however the next clause states that, the ECI may reconsider the candidature in certain cases." 

Mitra however claimed this to be a mistake of his `election agent'. "I have already talked in this matter with the party leaders as well as the DM. The matter is under the consideration of the ECI. I'm confirmed my candidature will remain valid." He didn't want to elaborate more on this.
