A NGO supposed to be attached with social welfare activities
like providing house, road & drinking water facilities is alleged
to collect money from job seekers in lieu of providing appointment
at the organisation. Krishi Bikash Silpa Kendra is collecting a
sum of 50,000 - 70,000 from each applicant projecting the
NGO as an `Central Government Undertaking'. |

The NGO is also
using the national emblem (Ashok Stambha) in their letterhead
& stamps to establish their claim of being an government
organisation. The organisation having its `Record office' at
Sainthia & `management office' at Suri, both at Birbhum
district was established in 1983 under the `20 point programme'
of late prime minister Indira Gandhi, in order to help the
people below poverty line by means |

of self-employment projects.
The organisation has increased its network in Birbhum, Bardhaman
& Bankura districts recently & has a `employee' base of
more than 4,200 currently.
The Shabhadhipati of Burdwan Zilla Parishad, Uday Sarkar
commented, "we have already received such news in the name
of the alleged organisation. As far as the usage of national
emblem is concerned, it is purely an illegal thing as no such
organisation are supposed to be using the emblem. The emblem can
be used only by the government." The Burdwan District
Police Super when contacted said, "We were not aware of the
incident. We will definitely look into the matter & will
request our colleagues in Birbhum district to share information
with us." The District Magistrate clearly informed that,
there is a specific guideline of the organisations who are
entitled to use the national emblem. "I don't feel this
organisation fits in that section." added he. |

In
defence of using the national emblem, Ujjal
Chatterjee, President of the organisation said
when contacted at his residence over telephone,
"We are an central government organisation
& can use `Ashok Stambha' vide an order of the
state high court. However, we are not associated
with the money extraction. It is the work of a
group led by our former secretary Shaktipada Bagdi.
We have already informed our downline & also
informed the matter to the District Magistrate
& Police Super of Birbhum. Shaktipada Bagdi
had appointed Durjoy Biswas as the organiser of
the society. They both were expelled from the
organisation"
Shaktipada Bagdi is also alleged to use the national emblem at
the name plate in his Bataspur residence. He also used a red
light affixed to his car. All these things were & are done
with intention to misguide the youths to believe this
organisation as an government one. Youths all over these three
districts are depositing the amount asked with a faith of
getting an employment at `a government organisation'. |

The organisation is reported to be active in the Polempur &
Palsit-Palla Road area near Burdwan city very recently. Seems
the unemployed youth of the region is yet to learn a lesson & are
still an
easy victim of these money extracting forged organisations. |
