Piyari, Kalinagar villages in the Dhatrigram area have faced the erosion on the banks of Bhagirathi since yesterday night. The villagers have started fleeing from the village. The local BDO & the pradahan of the gram panchayet has visited the area today & witnessed the
effect of the calamity. Although they have ordered for preventive measures, the villagers are still under trauma & refused to return to the village.

but the villagers informed that the relief is insufficient enough. Srikumar
Mukhopadhay, the SDO Kalna have admitted, "the situation is alarming but we have nothing to do in this respect. This erosion was not expected in the early monsoon." The head estimator of the Damodar Irrigation circle, Chittaranjan Dutta informed, "we have already subitted a report on protection of
erosion on the left bank of Bhagirathi river near the Agradwip - Bethuaduri ferry ghat road to the district magistrate & the zilla parishad
shabhadhipati. We have asked for fund from them to continue with work at these areas." He also informed that the department cannot start any preventive work due to the financial crunch in the department.
The erosion has reached to such an extent that an entire village of Jaluidanga have been totally eroded by the river. The superintendent engineer of the Damodar irrigation circle said, "we couldn't take any preventive steps as the land belong to the eastern railways." The tug-of-war between the department & the railways not only left the villagers homeless & vanished the very
existence of the village, but also may result in the railway line been
swept off any day as the river currentlY flowing mere meters from the line in some of the areas.
