Burdwan: CITU blocks railway services.

CITU BLOCKS RAILWAY SERVICES AT BURDWAN

The CITU affiliated trade unions of the unlicensed hawkers, porters & labours of the contractors blocked the railway tracks at Burdwan station today morning for two hours. The union leaders described this to be the protest against the harassment made by the railway security personnel. The GRP & the RPF have recently started their drive against the unlicensed porters & hawkers. The drive came after one passenger of Howrah - Amritsar Express died while two co-passengers hospitalised after consuming food from

unlicensed hawker between Chandannagar & Bardhaman stations on 02.07.04.

The union leaders today claimed that the rail blockade was done to support the passengers as the hawkers help the passengers by supplying food to them. They also demanded that the CITU will struggle till these members are not granted license by the railway department.
