PATIENT COMPLAINS OF BEING ASSAULTED BY DOCTOR AT HOSPITAL OPERATION THEATER

The Burdwan Medical College & Hospital continues to be in headlines, this time a patient lodged a complain with the hospital authority of a doctor assaulting her inside the emergency operation theater.

Narayani Mete, a local mid aged housewife came to the hospital with a swollen finger. A doctor of the emergency surgical department suggested a minor operation to be done on her finger. She was asked to report at the department on 6th June for the operation. Narayani informed that, during the operation she complained of immense pain & requested to exercise a local anesthesia. At this the surgeon turned furious & physically assaulted her, complained Narayani. She also said, "after that

the doctor slapped me hard on my face & I became unconscious." She narrated the incident to her family members & relatives after she was released from the hospital after the operation.

The family members & relatives accompanied her to lodge a complain with the super of the hospital. She failed to identify the doctor when the super requested to do so. The acting superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Anup Saha assured justice to the lady. He said, "We have already instructed the unit head of the day to identify the doctor immediately."

In another incidence, Mahadev Hazra, a 35 year old under trial person died in BMCH yesterday. He was in the Burdwan jail custody since 18th May. He was arrested after his wife compalined of physical torture. He was taken to the hospital as he fell ill in the jail, where he died yesterday. The body has been sent for post mortem.
