A case of alleged selling off a new born baby from a
private nursing home at Burdwan have brought
forward the illegal & inhuman practices
carried at the medical institutes of this district
town. The racquet of some nursing homes
& gynecologists of the city are involved in
practices like illegal abortions & delivery of
unmarried ladies where the babies are usually sold
off to `provide relief' to the patients & her
family members. Sources informed that, both the
nursing home as well the medical practitioners
charge more than double of their normal remunerations
to carry on these illegal practices.

on the same day. The patient was treated by Dr. Manirul
Haque & Dr. Swapna Haque. Later the lady & her
father fled from the nursing home leaving the child to
face her destiny. The stranded child was then allegedly
sold off to one Banda Pal by two ayas of the nursing
home. Although one of the duo, Gouri was not available
for comments, the other Chapala informed bardhaman.com,
"I gave away the child to a lady for
humanity." She added, "if I didn't gave her
up, she would have died in absence of a much needed
mother." Chapala denied any financial transaction
associated with the deal, but Bandana confirmed, "I
paid both of them Rs. 1000 out of my wish."
The gynecologist, Dr. Swapna Haque when contacted
informed, "we were summoned by the nursing home to
attend a patient with labour pains. We conducted a
normal delivery as the lady gave birth to a normal girl
child weighing 2kgs." She also informed, "we
are not police & cannot determine whether the
patient is married or not. As a medical practitioner, we
are bound to treat a patient in such conditions."
She informed that, both the baby & the mother was
discharged by her from the nursing home yesterday `in
sound condition'. She also explained that, abortion of
any one with pregnancy upto 20 weeks is legal as per the
country's law. Although the doctor justifies her
actions, the illegal practices of the doctor-nursing
home nexus are being discussed among everyone in the
Khoshbagan area.
The district police super, Niraj Kumar Singh confirmed
that, Bandana Pal have received the baby from the
nursing home without any valid documentation. He also
informed that a permission from the S.D.O is necessary
for this purpose. A probe have been ordered in the
matter. |
