05 Apr. 04:
Sarthak Ghosh, a mid aged villager from Kaligram, Burdwan has
been a victim of the negligence of doctors at the Burdwan
Medical College & Hospital. He was admitted at the
city hospital on 10.02.04 when a tractor ran over his left
leg. He was referred by the BMCH to "any hospital in
Kolkata" for plastic surgery. He was refused
admission from the SSKM & Calcutta National Medical
College & Hospital due to unavailability of "bed/
floor bed" in between 24.03.04 & 30.03.04.
He being a daily labour (the local gram panchayet issued a
certificate on 11.02.03 stating his family income to be
within Rs. 8,000 annually) couldn't bear up with both the
cost & harassment he faced at the govt. hospitals at
Kolkata, was readmitted at the BMCH on 31.03.04.
Till then he is lying idle at a floor bed at the hospital.
"Inspite of my application to the Super of the
hospital, I'm yet to receive a proper treatment. I fear
this doesn't lead to amputation of my leg & subsequent
permanent disability" said the ailing patient.
