Burdwan, 4 June 04 :
The Rurh Sanaskriti Parishad today appealed to the governor of
the state to remove the university, college & government
office housed in the Burdwan raj palace. A team from the
organisation submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional
Officer, Burdwan (Sadar). At their deputation, they have requested
the governor to take `necessary steps for restraining further
demolition of old heritage buildings at Burdwan town'. The
committee have suggested to conserve the palace for tourism. A
copy of the application was forwarded to the Archaeological Survey
of India, Nirupam Sen, state minister of industry & commerce,
the vice-chancellor of the university, Sabhadhipati of the Burdwan
Zilla Parishad and Chairman & Vice-chairman of Burdwan
municipality.
Incidentally, a portion of the palace was brought down by the
college authority housed in it for the sake of modernisation of
