The Burdwan District Bar Association today withheld the decision of the district court's lawyers' decision of boycotting the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Somnath Mukherjee. Earlier on 29.04.04 the lawyers of the Burdwan District court boycotted the magistrate on the grounds of `unfair judicial practices'. 

The Vice-President of the Burdwan District Bar Association, Biswajit Das informed, "the association has passed a resolution today afternoon supporting the lawyers' decision of boycotting the SDJM for indefinite time. He often accepts the plea of the lawyer at the court while hearing, but passes a completely different order to reject the plea while finalising it at his chamber. We feel he changes his mind in the chamber due to some pressure from other sources. His such action prevents the lawyer to place his rejected plea to higher judicial officers next day." He also added, "we believe that, either he doesn't know the law or he is intentionally behaving so due to some external pressures."

The association has forwarded copies of its resolution to the Chief Justice of the state high court & the District Judge, Burdwan for their information. 

This indefinite boycott of the SDJM has brought forward a question mark on the judgement of the pending cases at his court.
