The voters in the Burdwan district has increased by 63,546 as
informed by Subrata Gupta, District Magistrate, Burdwan at a
press meet today in his office where all ADMs' and OC ellection
were present. The total voters in the district is currently
43,15,362 out of which 22,61,543 are male & 20,53,819 are
female. Total service voters happens to be 2,484 out of which
1,658 are male & 826 are female. The current figures are announced after the final
scrutiny & modification of the voter list as on 04th Feb
this year. This is an increase of 1.47% over the previous year. Durgapur(2)
has the highest number of voters (2,50,206) & Hirapur has the lowest with
1,29,132 voters.

1,29,132, Asansol - 1,57,539, Raniganj - 1,38,290, Jamuria -
1,46,952, Ukhra - 2,07,236, Durgapur(1) - 1,36,471, Durgapur(2)
- 2,50,206, Kanksa - 1,60,460, Galsi - 1,50,192, Aushgram -

According
to Election Commission of India the schedule for election
process in the district is last date of filing nominations
- 23.04.2004, scrutiny of notification - 24.04.2004, withdrawal
of candidature - 26.04.2004, date of poll - 10.05.2004 &
counting of votes - 13.05.2004.
For
the first time along with the whole country Electronic Voting
Machine will be used in the whole district. This time
every voter have to show their identity to cast vote, though 10%
of voter id. card is yet to be distributed. OC election said
"50% polling officials for this district will come from
other districts of South Bengal". To monitor the poll
process and for faster communication of information all S.D.Os /
B.D.Os offices have been connected through internet with
district headquarters. A media center at district and
sub-division level will be opened from 16.04.2004 to provide
election related information. |
