Asansol,
13 Mar. 04 :
The villagers of Chapui, a village near Asansol has called for a
vote boycott this Loksava Election to protest the shifting of
the sole booth from the village's Chapui Khas Colliery Primary
School to a distant Chapui Primary School. The villagers have
submitted a mass petition to the SDO, Asansol to protest this
change.
The villagers informed that, the school where the booth has been
shifted is quite far from the locality as well as women will not
feel safe to go for the polling as illegal country liquor is
been manufactured & sold beside the school. "Till date
the polling has been done at the Khas Colliery School very
peacefully & the facilities at the school is much better for
the polling & security officials. No complaints has been
made in this matter till date, then why this change"
commented a villager. "We had submitted a mass petition
signed by more than 500 villagers in protest to the SDO to draw
attention of the ruling party & the government. If things
doesn't change, all villagers will restrain from polling this
year." added he.
The O.C. Elections, Asansol was contacted by bardhaman.com
& he commented that, "the booth change was done in accordance
to the guidelines of the Election Commission. We did discuss the
matter with all the political parties regarding this & no
one protested. Even if, yesterday we had a all-party meeting
& no one objected in this issue. However, we will keep a
close watch regarding this matter" |
