my nephew Kapil first saw the hairy spider approaching the drawing room from the kitchen end. He screamed and we rushed immediately. He added, it was crashed with the help of a blunt stick. But we were frightened.
The specimen was 5 inches in length and 3 inches in breadth. The Goenka family members, after learning that such spiders are appearing in several places in Asansol-Durgapur areas these days, took the matter very seriously.
Purabi, niece of Goenka said, when it was killed white saliva spread over the area. Entomologist with the
STM, Kolkata, Dr Hiranmoy Mukherjee told, I have learnt that such spiders are lurking but the government report are yet to reach to us. He added, we have discussed the matter with the director,
STM. The venomous spiders should be prevented at the earliest. because, he added, a successful bite by the spider may claim human life. Usually they attack the lizard or the rat in the domestic areas and avoid human being. But the entomologists are surprised with the mushrooming of the African spider in this industrial hub. In past one fortnight such spiders have appeared in seven different places. A few sample have already been deposited with the local forest authorities in Asansol and Durgapur.
