This happens to be the
most popular Durgapuja of Durgapur, the steel city.
The elaborate mandap is a real piece of art built in
mat (madur). `We every year choose items of local
handicraft as the medium to promote the craft'
explained the members of this 44th year Durgapuja
committee.
The Durga idol is in traditional style although a
change from its earlier daaker saaj. The people from
every community work on make this puja a success.
`We have even Muslim artists working on the debi's
calchitra' informed the members.
This year the puja have already been awarded as the
best Durgapuja of this industrial city by a leading
newspaper.
