Another instance
of yesteryear's big puja reviving. This Durgapuja
situated beside the Spandan complex (elders may
recollect it as the Camping ground) was noted to
have the most extravagant illumination. During the
last few years this 65 years old puja couldn't
match up with the theme concept, but this year it
astonished the viewers with almost an exact
prototype of the famous Red fort of New Delhi.
The mandap is built with plywood & plaster of
paris by a Burdwan based decorator under the
guidance of a local artist. The interior has been
well decorated using broken glass bangles &
glass. The Dugra pratima has been by
Samarendranath Mishra, a presidential award
winning artist from Bankura. `The idol has been
built following dimension art of paddy-straw &
weighs only 5.5 kilograms' explained the puja
committee secretary. Illumination has been a
strong point of this Durga puja & it
continues.
Nicely arranged show & one of the contenders
of this year's awards.
